Delivery of the new VDL DB300 / Wright for Arriva North East has begun with 7616/8/9/20/2 (NK61EBD/G/J/L/N) noted as having been delivered by myself and Steven Hodgson. By yesterday, 7616/20 and one other had reached Blyth (not yet in use) and 7619 was at Jesmond. The final four VDL SB200 / Wright 1495-8 (NK61CZJ/L-N) were diverted at the last minute from Blyth to Jesmond as reported by Andy scott, though 1496 has yet to make its way to the region from Heysham docks. In turn, Blyth will get the four DB300s that had been expected for Ashington for the 518, with Ashington getting Blyth's Enviro 400s. Volvo Olympian / NCME 7360/1 (R618/9MNU) have been repainted red, 7360 illustarted by Steven Hodgson. More vehicle movements are expected imminently.
The new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200s for Stagecoach North East at South Shields are continuing to be delivered following the seasonal break. up to 36472 (NK61ECX) are now in use and 36473-7 (NK61ECY/Z/DF/J/L) have also been delivered, as nopted by Steven Hodgson and Mark McCann. These are displacing various Dennis Dart SLFs to reserve, Hartlepool and Sunderland.
Further new Optare Solos for Go North East's Nexus work are 635/6 (NK61FJP/MD), at Deptford, while previously delivered 631-4 are in use at Saltmeadows. New for additional National Express contracts are Volvo B9R / Caetano 7103/4 (FJ61GZC/D), as illustrated by Steven Hodgson. Three-door Mercedes Citaro artics 5340-6/55 (BL57OXP/YE-H/J, BX54UDB) are now in use in gold Citylink livery on the 58 at Gateshead, as noted by Steven Hodgson, David Gambles, Bazza Houston and Ernie Robson. Vehicle cascades are due to start in earnest imminently, though debranded DAF SB120 / Wright 8252 (NA52BVJ) has now moved to Deptford and some Mercedes Ciatros from Gateshead are at Stanley for crew familliarisation. MPDs 548/9 (NA52AXO, NK53TKD) are now at Percy Main, replacing 507/8 (X507/8WRG), while 542 (NA52AXG) is at Deptford. MPDs 571/2 (NK53TMV/X) are now in use at Crook, fully branded for "The OK way" on Bishop Auckland local service 18. Thanks to Keith Lee and Steven Hodgson for the photos. At least one of the OK-livered Scania L94s (now 5229-33) is now braded for the OK1. Ernie Robson reports that all of the W-reg Diamond Volvo B10BLEs are now in plum, but not all R-reg examples are done as yet.
Grant Potter has reported that the entire fleet of Franks Coaches, Haswell has appeared on ebay, suggesting that this operator has given up.
Steven Hodgson notes that Gateshead Central Taxis have new Fiats YX61BJO/U for their Nexus work.
Scarlet Band, West Cornforth, as well as taking on some DCC contracts for work abandonned by Arriva, have also set up new services X49 and 113 in competition with Arriva. Several additional Optare Solos are in stock, including T469BCN from the Eden, T789KNW from an unknown source and X315CBT from Durham County Council, the latter illustarted by John Robsinson. Steven Hodgson illustrates Solo YJ55YGM now branded for the X49 and running free for one day to drum-up custom.

John Atkin reports that Stagecarriage, South Bank have acquired ex Stagecoach Manchester Volvo B10M / Alexander R952XVM for use on extended service 271 that will now run through to Easington and also have ex Tees Valley Coach Travel Volvo Olympian / NCME P601CAY.

Gez reports that the first of the new VDL DB300 / Wright for Arriva North East has arrived at Heysham docks in the form of 7616/7 (NK61EBD/F). New for Nexus work are Optare Solos 2601-3/870/1 (YJ61JFF/G/K/N/O), all at Jesmond in Nexus livery. These have displaced MPDs 1764/72/97/8 (NK05GWC/O, Y215BGB, SA52MYT) back to Darlington and 1761 (NK05GVY) to Ashington. Further new VDL SB200 / Wright are 1482/3/8-98 (NK61CYV/W/ZB-H/J/L-N). 1480-3 are now in service at Ashington, 1484-94 at Stockton and 1495-8 in the process of entering service at Blyth. Movements as a result of these see Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton 1636-8/40/9-51/6 (S636-8/40KHN, R424-6/31COO) move to Darlington (to be followed by 1646/7) along with DAF SB220GS / Plaxton 4034 (R434RPY). Temsa Avenue 4708 (YJ59BHZ) was destoyed by fire between Brotton and Carlin How on 30/11/11 and has been replaced at Redcar by Dennis Dart / Alexander 1666 (L740VNL). Stockton MPD 1718 (V718DNL) has been written off in an accidnet and replaced by sister 1711 (V711DNL). Withdrawn are Dennis Dart / Alexander 1664/7/80-3 (L738/41VNL, P456/8-60EEF) and Plaxton bodied 1670 (M770DRG) and a selection of Stockton's Scania L113s. Volvo B10B / Alexander 4537 (L211KEF) has been repainted red, leaving no vehicles now in yellow. Scania Omnicity CX05EOV-Y are being renumbered 4643-5. Go North East have caused something of a stir by repainting serveral vehicles into pseudo-OK Motor Services livery for use on new services 19 and OK1 in the Bishop Auckland Area. Treated so far are MPDs 571/2 (NK53TMV/X) and Scania L94UB / Wright 5229-31 (NK565OLG/H/J), as photographed by Steven Hosgdson and Anthony Glen. Bazza Houston and Steven Hodsgon report the arrival of new Optare Solo SRs 631-4 (NK61FEU/V/X/JO) for Nexus work. SPDs 8172/3 (S872/3ONL) are now at Deptford. Mercedes Citaro Artics 5347/8 (BP57UYK/L) are also now in use, with 5339/41/7/8 all featuring X66 branding as noted by Steven Hodgson and myself.
Chris Redpath and Richard Smiles report that Stagecoach North East are recieving new Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 36461-79 (NK61EBZ/CA/C-F/J/N/T/V-Z/DF/J/L/O/P) at South Shields. Steven Hodgson and Richard Smiles have noted 36461/3/4/5/7 in use so far. Disposals are of Volvo B10M / Northern Counties 20291 (M401SPY) to Tyne & Wear Fire Brigade, Alexander bodied sisters 20840/4 (P840/4GND) to Wigleys, Carlton and Dennis Dart / Alexander 32781 (L781WCN) to Greivesons for scrap.
Andy Lancaster reports that Compass Royston Optare Solo W87NDW has been repainted into a black-based livery for Middlesbrough College.
Steven Hodgson notes that Connect, Jarrow have two new Optare Solos for Nexus work, these being YJ61JHV/X. The foromer is a Solo SE, the latter a longer version.
New at Tees Valley Coach Travel, Eaglescliffe is Volvo B13B / Plaxton YN61EOT, as reported and illustrated by David Little via Steven Hodgson.

The latest new VDL SB120s to arrive for Arriva North East are 1480/1 (NK61CYT/U) at Ashington (though not in service by Saturday), 1484/5 (NK61CYX/Y) at Stockton (not yet in use) and 1486/7 (NK61CYZ/ZA) and NK61CZC under preparation at Jesmond. Another vehicle displaced from Durham is Scania L113 / East Lancs 263 (N171PUT), which is now at Ashington as illustrated by Steven Hodgson. This may have replaced the final Leyland Olympian, 7204 (G546VBB) which is now parked up at Ashington minus ticket machine.
Go North East David Gambles reports that partly de-branded North Tyne MPD 513 (X513WRG) is in use at Hexham. Bazza Houston reports that MPD 497 (V197ERG) has been sold to The Eden, West Auckland and Volvo Olympian / NCME 3934 (R393LGH) has been sold to West Kent Buses, West Kingsdown.
Stagecoach North East have drafted reserve Volvo Olympian / Alexander 16707 (N707LTN) into Stockton, as illustrated by Andy Lancaster. Presumably this has been prompted by sister 16840 (R640OVN) being off the road awaiting attention to its air system, though it will be interesting to see if it remains in use once that returns.
Steven Hodgson notes that Thirlwell's, Swalwell have Mercedes Vario / UVG R835GVC. It is understood that this is ex Warwickshire Council.

The latest status on the new VDL SB200 / Wright for Arriva North East, thanks to sightings from Curtis Rawlinson, Bob Calvert, Bryn McGloin, Steven Hodgson and Keith Lee, is that 1461-77 (NK61CXS-Z/YA/C/E-H/J/L/O) are all in service at Belmont, while 1479 (NK61CYS) is currently under preperation at Jesmond along with un-numbered NK61CYZ. Alex Kennedy, Bryn McGloin and Wayne report that Dennis Dart / Alexander 1660 (L729VNL) has moved to Redcar to replace Plaxton bodied 1668 (L748VNL), while 1677/9 (P634/8PGP) are now withdrawn following the receipt by Darlington of Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton 1613/6 (S613/6KHN) and DAF SB220GS / Plaxton 4032/3 (R432/3RPY).
Steven Hodgson reports that Go North East now have Mercedes Citaro Artics 5339/41 (BL57OXJ/P) in service at Gateshead in two-door form, 5341 now with new X66 branding on its gold paintwork. Further arrivals are 5249-56 (BX54UCP/R/U-W/Z/DB/D), of which 5354 is in use on crew familiarisation in London Central livery as photographed by Richard Tiplady. Richard also notes that MPDs 549-51/3/4 (NK53TKD-F/N/O) are now in green, while Steven reports Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4837/8 (R837/8PRG) now in maroon (Crusader base colour).
Richard Smiles and Steven Hodgson report that Stagecoach North East have repianted MAN 18.220 / Alexander 22050 (NK53KFU) into a special blue version of Stagecoach livery and subsequently branded for the X34.

The new VDL SB200 / Wright for Arriva North East are now starting to arrive and enter service. Sightings from Steven Hodgson, Keith Lee, Curtis Rawlinson and Gez suggest that 1461-6/8/9/70/1/3/4 (NK61CXS-X/Z/YA/C/E/G/H) are in service at Belmont, while additionally NK61CYL/P/S/U have all been seen on delivery at Heysham docks. Note that the registration of 1471 is subject to confirmation. It would seem that Arriva North West Scania Omnicity 2061-3 (CX05EOV-Y) are in the process of transferring to Durham. 2061 has been photographed at Jesmond by Steven Hodgson, still in 34 seat form for Liverpool Airport service 500 - something that will doubtless need to be altered. Steven also notes that Temsa Avenue 4700 (YJ59AZV) is up at Jesmond, looking as if it is being prepared to return to Arriva Bus & Coach. Leyland Olympian / NCME 7203/5 (G529/45VBB) have been withdrawn, leaving 7204 (G546VBB) as the final Leyland.
Go North East Volvo B7TL / Plaxton 6008/10 (V308/10LGC) have moved from Percy Main to Chester le Street, while 6009/18/9/22/6/42 (V209/18/322/226/306LGC) have moved from Deptford to Chester le Street, 6028/30/3/6/8 (V228/330/233/336/8LGC) have moved from Washington to Chester le Street and 6011/3/29/31/2 (V311/3/29/31/2LGC) from Chester le Street to Washington. The blue "Pronto" examples are outstaioned at Crook. Volvo B7TL / East Lancs 3967/70/1/6/9/81 (PN02XCL, PJ02PYW/X/ZC/F/H) have from Chester le Street to Deptford, as illustrated by Steven Hodgson. Dennis Dart / Caetano 8284 (V434KGF) has moved from Percy Main to Deptford, joined by 8280/1 (T427/8LGP) from Chester le Street. Volvo Olympian / NCME 3814 (S814OFT) has moved from Percy Main to Gateshead displacing 3923 (R282LGH) to Winlaton. Optare Solos 626/7 (NK61DBX/Y) have moved from Deptford to Saltmeadows (as illustrated by Bazza Houston) now that the hybrids have arrived. MPD 551 (NK53TKF) has moved from Deptford to Saltmeadows, with 543 (NA52AXH) going from Saltmeadows to Peterlee, 618/9 (NK55RUV/W) going from Saltmeadows to Consett and 562 (NK53TLJ) from Hexham to Percy Main. Dennis Trident/East Lancs 3802 (V802EBR) has moved from Chester le Street to Stanley. Volvo Olympian / NCME 3912/28 (R270/87LGH) and MPDs 487/90/8/9/513 (V487/90/8/9ERG, X513WRG) have been withdrawn. Bazza also has noted Mercedes Citaro artic BX54UCZ on driver familiarisation, still in London red. Scania L94UB / Wright 4949 (NK51OLP) has been used in connection with various Royal British Legion events and is understood to be set to operate from a range of depots over coming weeks. Steven Hodgson illustartes this and one of the "Pulse" branded Volvo B10BLEs that has replaced the Kingfisher branded MPDs on the 69/69A. Further Mercedes Citaros painted orange are 5284/95/97 (NK08CFP/GX/Z), while MPD 548 (NA52AXO) has been repainted green, expected to end up on North Tyne Links services. Stagecoach North East Volvo B10BLE / Alexander 21143/50 (R243/50KRG) have entered service at Stockton, but 21144 (R244KRG) has not and it is anticipated that 21136 (R236KRG) may do so instead. Chris Hall reports that Volvo B10B / Plaxton driver trainer 21037 (L37HHN) lives on! Richard Smiles and Chris Redpath report that Volvo B10M / Alexander 20120/4/837/9 (P120/4XCN, P837/9GND) have been sold to Wigleys, Carlton (dealer). 20120 has moved from there to Lavenders, Derby.

Scott Cooper notes that Tees Valley Coach Travel, Eaglescliffe Leyland Olympian F506NJE has been for sale on ebay. Volvo D10M / NCME G637BPH, Leyland Olympian / ALexander L648MYG and Dennis Javelin M516TVM have all been sold via ebay. L648MYG was in use in plain white before departure. It is understood that the Plaxton Elite OO09MFC has been repainted into a darker grey livery. More Panthers / Elites are understood to be due for contract work next summer.

Movements underway at Arriva North East should see Jesmond VDL SB120 / Wright 1401-3 (NK53HHX-Z) swap places with newer Blyth sisters 1408-10 (NK09BPX-Z). DAF SB3000/Plaxton 1201 (R291KRG) is due to move to Ashington, where Leyland Olympian / NCME 7203/5 (G529/45VBB) are due to be withdrawn. DAF SB220GS / Plaxton 4033/4 (R433/4RPY) are due to move from Darlington to Durham along with two 7 boards. With the end of the summer season on the 93, Redcar should lose Optare Prisma 3007 (N807XHN) back to reserve and Dennis Dart / Plaxton 1686 (J220HGY) to Durham, Steven Hodgson reports that Volvo B10BLE / Alexander 4518 (W294PPT) is back in use at Ashington, repainted, after a lengthy lay-off. The ex Scotland VDLs that were previously noted at Jesmond have been getting painted white for return to the dealer, though Jemsond pressed the former 04 (YJ58FFC) into service due to vehicle shortages. Scania L113 / East Lancs 276 (P276VRG), Volvo B10B / Alexander 4539 (N950TVK), Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4503 (V503DFT), DAF SB220GS / Plaxton 4053 (S353KHN), Volvo B6 / Plaxton 1004 (L244TKA), Volvo Olympian / NCME 7375 (M375FTY), Scania N113 / East Lancs 7266 (N163VVO), Volvo Olympian / East Lancs 7426 (M690HPF) and Dennis Dart / NCME 1601/85 (L127/41YVK) have been sold to Wigley, Carlton, presumably for scrap.
The two new hydrid Optare Solos for Go North East have arrived. 629/30 (NK61EFY/GY) oerate service 700 in Sunderland. Ray Parnaby notes that Citaro Artics 5344/5 (BP57UYG/H) have been repainted gold at Thorntons, Ashington. Bazza Houston, Ray Parnaby and Steven Hodgson report that Mercedes Citaro 5286/8/96 (NK08CFV/Z/GY) is now orange and Dennis Trident / Plaxton 3885/7/8 (NK51UCN/P/R) and East Lancs bodied 3859 (W859PNL) are now Northern red. Scania L94UB / Wright 4949 (NK51OLB) is now in a special livery for the Royal British Legion. Ernie Robson notes that MPD 532 (NA52AWU) is now yellow and at Consett. The blue Volvo B7TLs are now donning Pronto vinyls in an Italian style for new services X20 and X21, as illustarted by Steven Hodgson. These will be based at the new Crook outstation. Several red B7TLs are being branded as "red angels" as illustared by Anthony Glen and Bazza Houston.

Arriva North East now have ex London DAF DB250 / Alexander 7463/4 (T310/1FGN) in use at Jesmond. Steven Hodgson notes that VDL SB200 / Plaxton 02/4 (YJ58FFB/C) and VDL SB120 / Plaxton 1955/7/9 (YJ07JSU/X/Z), plus possibly 1956/8 (YJ07JSV/Y), have appeared at Jesmond depot from Scotland West. They appear to be getting repainted white, presumably for return to Arriva Bus & Coach. Steven reports the repaint and resuscitation of two vehicles which have been off the road for a while. DAF SB3000 / Plaxton 1206 (V206DJR) is back in use at Jesmond and Volvo Olympian 7364 (S648KJU) is under preparation for a return to service also.
New at Go North East are Optare Solo SR 626-8 (NK61DBZ), 628 liveried as a spare for the forthcoming hybrid Solos for new service 700 in Sunderland, the other two in Nexus livery and in use on the 700 pending the hybrids' arrival. Steven Hodgson and Ernie Robson illustrate ex Oxford Volvo B10BLE / Wright 5166-9 (W816-9FBW) which are at Gateshead in blue for the Fab 57. Existing 5160 (T810CBW) now blue (a different shade than used for the Kingfisher brand) for the 69, joined by newly ex Oxford 5161/5 (T811/5CBW) at Winlaton. Vehicles were again provided for the Great North Run, though as illustrated by Steven Hodgson, the line-up this year was mainly red rather than yellow! Volvo B7TL / Plaxton 6035/40/1 (V335/04/5LGC) are all now in allover blue and at Chester-le-Street. MPDs 535/40/1 (NA52AWX/XD/F) have been repianted yellow ex Kingfisher livbery and transferred to Peterlee. Volvo Olympians 3908/44/5 (R266LGH, R469/70RRA) have been withdrawn. Leyland Olympian / ECW 3522 (C522LJR) is now in preservation with Jonothan Ruddick after several years with Mulleys of Ixworth.
Stagecoach North East MAN 18.220 / Alexander 22469-71 (T469-71BNL) are now at Stockton. Steven Hodgson illustrates Dennis Dart SLF / Alexander 33492 (R472MVN), which is now in use at South Shields after a stint on Merseyside and has displaced sister 33491 (R471MVN) to reserve. Richard Smiles and Chris Redpath indicate that the only Volvo B10BLEs officially in use now are 21149 (R249KRG) at South Shields and 21104/5 (P604/5JBU) at Stockton, the remainder being held in reserve. Volvo Olympian / Alexander 16701/2/31 (N701/2/31LTN) have been sold to Fleetlink (dealer)and Vovlo B10M / Alexander 20261 (N551VDC) has been sold to a private buyer.
Steven Hodgson notes that Classic, Annfield Plain have acquired Optare Solo CE52UWW, which had been new to Bebb, and have repainted DAF DB250 / Alexander T313FGN.
The Eden, West Auckland have acquired ex Go North East and Arriva North East MPD V732DNL, which is now in full livery as D1. The company is to relocate to the premises previously occupied by the original Eden operation in West Auckland.
Adam Nicholson notes that Atkinsons, Ingleby Arncliffe have taken new Temsa Safari AK61ATK into stock, looing smart in full livery.

In use with Your Bus, Hetton-le-Hole is Optare Solo SE 1604 (YJ60KFP), filling in for the electric Optare Solos on the Durham Cathederal Bus. MPD 1501 (LG02FFC) had previously been on loan from the Midlands operation for this purpose, as recorded by Steven Hodgson.

A vehicle that I had not previously noted with Proctors, Lemming Bar is Plaxton Primo YX07HPE, which carries new style logos. Volvo Olympian / Alexander S874OHN has been de-roofed.

The remaining new Optare Solos for Arriva North East are now in use at Darlington. These are 2866-9 (YJ11OJB-E) and have displaced MPDs 1761/4/72/97/8 (NK05GVY/WC/O, Y215BGB, SA52MYT) to Jesmond for additional Nexus work (to be replaced by new Solos at some stage) and Alexander bodied mini Darts 1795/6 (Y258/9KNB) to Durham. Ex Arriva London DAF DB250 / Alexander 7461 (T308FGN) is in use at Ashington (presumably while Olympian 7410 is at Jesmond for the X60) and 7462 (T309FGN) is in service at Jesmond as illustrated by Steven Hodgson. The DAFs have displaced Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 7416 (P416CCU) to Blyth, with sister 7415 (P415CCU) withdrawn and 7414 (P414CCU) to follow imminently. MPD 1720 (V720DNL) is due to transfer from Redcar to Jesmond. Dennis Dart / Northern Counties 1601/85 (L127/41YVK) are due to be withdrawn.

Neil Watson, Steven Hodgson and Peter Dean note that Jesmond now have DAF DB250 / Alexander 7459/60 (T306/7FGN) in service. Bryn McGloin reports the surprising repaint of early step-entrance Dennis Dart / Alexander 1658 (K709PCN) into interurban livery.

Ray Barber notes that three further DAF DB250 / Alexander T308-10FGN are on their way to Arriva North East and Richard Woodhead has reported their arrival at Derby for refurbishment. These are expected to become 7461-3. It seems highly likely that these will end up at Jesmond, ostensibly for additional Nexus contracts. DAF SB220GS / Northern Counties 4008 (P10LPG) has come from Arriva Yorkshire, as illustrated by Steven Hodgson, and has replaced fire damaged sister 4053 (S353KHN) at Redcar, the latter now listed for disposal. This was new as an LPG-powered bus, with roof mounted gas tanks, but was converted to standard diesel propulsion later in life. Adam Nicholson notes that MPD 1751 (W752SBR) has been repainted. Volvo Olympian / East Lancs 7425/6 (M689/90HPF) are due off service with the end of the school term. Steven Hodgson illustrates the new X66 branding applied to some of Darlington's coaches.
Delivery of the new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400H hybrids has continued at Stagecoach North East, the full batch being 12061-86 (NK11DGY/Z/HA/C-G/J/L-P/V/Y/Z/JD-F/J/V/X-Y/KA). 12062 has been used on crew familiarisation, as depicted by Steven Hodgson, while 12064 was used for the official launch on 01/07/11, later joined by 12061/2 for photos - Steven was on hand with his camera! It is understood from the launch that they are due to enter service tomorrow. Danny Howard confirms that Volvo B10M / Alexander 20553 (P553ESA) is now a driver trainer and notes that Volvo B10B / Alexander 21002 (P902DRG), Volvo B10BLE / Northern counties 21103 (P603JBU), Volvo B10BLE / Alexander 21138/45/8/56/7 and Volvo B10M / Alexander 20840 (P840GND) are all stored at Slatyford. He also notes that Volvo B10M / Northern Counties 20273 (M713KRH) is stored at Hartlepool and Dennis Dart SLF / Alexander 33489 (R469MVN) is under cannibalisation at Sunderland. Richard Smiles, Chris Redpath, Danny Howard and Chris Hall note a number of disposals of withdrawn stock. Volvo B10M / Northern Counties 20243/97/300 (M543/407/10SPY) have gone to Greievsons for scrap, Alexander bodied 20122/696/722 (P122XCN, P316EFL, K722DAO) have gone to Hardwick, Carlton along with Dennis Dart / Alexander 32633/782/8 (P633PGP, P782/8WVK), while sister 32765 (L765ARG) is reported to have gone to Wigley, Carlton. Chris also notes that Volvo B10M / Northern Counties 20267/8/70/2/91/8 (M707/8/10/2KRH, M401/8SPY) have been pulled out of the storage shed at Stockton, so are presumably about to leave. As can be seen above, their condition is rather better than that of some vehicles other operators are still using in service!
Go North East have received the first of their latest batch of Optare Versas and have placed purple 8319-24 (NK11FXB-G) into service on new "Simplicity" route 36 in Sunderland, which has operated free for the last week, as illustrated by Ray Parnaby, Steven Hodgson, Bazza Houston and myself. Additional Volvo B7TL / Plaxton back from refurbishment, single door conversion and repaint are 6018/33 (V218/33LGC).

Ray Barber reports that Arriva North East are to receive DAF DB250 / Alexander T306/7FGN (ex DLA106/&) from Arriva London. It is anticipated that these will be refurbished and that others may follow. have repainted Optare Solos 2835/6 (YJ08XBR/S) white for a new NHS contract serving hospitals in Durham, Darlington and Bishop Auckland. Volvo B10B / Alexander 4538 (L212KEF) has been repainted red, while Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 7412 (P412CCU) is a highly surprising repaint into interurban livery, given the recent withdrawal of sisters 7419/20 (P419/20CCU)! In an unfortunate episode, Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4503 (V503DFT) was repainted only days before being written off by a fire. Optare Solo 2819 (YK08ETU) is out of use for repair after it was stolen from Peterlee bus station and crashed in Shotton Colliery.
Steven Hodgson confirms that all of the recent Alexander Dennis Enviro 300s at Stagecoach North East's South Shields depot are now in service, with 27740 unusually featuring leather seat coverings. The remaining ex London Volvo B7TL / Plaxton have been renumbered into the 60xx series and are to be augmented by others from the batch and are expected to be painted into Northern red for Nexus school and other work. MPD 503 (X503WRG) has been on loan to Hexham. Repaints into Northern red are of Dennis Trident / East Lancs 3801/2/70 (V801/2EBR, W174SCU), Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4849/903 (R849PRG, W903RBB) and VDL SB120 / Wright 8260/8 (NK04FPE, NK54NKU). Scania L94UB / Wright 4934 (Y934ERG) is now fully branded for the Fab 56, while Scania Omnicity 5260 (NK56KJU) is branded for the Cobalt Clipper. Scania L94UB / Wright 4928 (Y928EBR) is now branded in rather tropical style for the "Whey Aye Five 0" (service 50). Should that not be "Why" rather than "Whey"?!
Joey Makepeace reports that Scarlet Band have acquired two Optare Solos, T645HBF and V931VUB. These are likely to see of the Mercedes 709s.

The latest Scania L113 to arrive at Arriva North East is Plaxton bodied 269 (R422TJW), now in service at Stockton. MPDs 1707/23/52/92 (V707/23DNL, W753SBR, NK55MYT) have moved to Ashington to see off Optare Metroriders 917, 2710/1 (R917JNL, R710/1MHN), though Curtis Rawlinson notes 917 in use with Jesmond today. Dave Allen and John Hall noted that MPDs 1709/15/35/50 (V709/15/35DNL, W751SBR) should now be at Blyth, where they are due to see off the last Mercedes Varios. VDL SB200 / Plaxton 02/4 (YJ58FFB/C) are due to return to Arriva Bus & Coach soon. Dennis Dart / Alexander 1675 (P616PGP) was replaced at Darlington by sister 1673 (N305AMC) breifly, but this and Plaxton bodied 1697 (M197YKA) have now returned to Redcar. Steven Hodgson reports that MPD 1766 (NK05GWE) has now been branded for Great Park Park & Ride and has been joined in this livery by sister 1767 (NK05GWF). Lee Johnson reports that DAF SB220GS / Plaxton 4053 (S353KHN) has been damaged by fire, while Bryn McGloin and Steven Hodgson note that sisters 4030/51 (R430RPY, S351KHN) are back in service following refurbishment and repaint.
New and now in service at Go North East are Volvo B9TL / Wright 6001-7 (NK11BGZ/HA/D-F/J/L) at Washington for the X1 and also seeing use on the NPower 921 contract. Vehicle movements, as shown on the website, see Deptford gain MPD 542 (NA52AXG) and Mercedes Citaros 5325-7 (NK58DWC-E), the latter expected to make up the numbers on the Lazer 35 and displace Scanias. Stanley have gained SPD 8221 (V821FBB), Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4849 (R849PRG) and, for a trial period, Mercedes Citaro 5283 (NK07KPU). Chester-le-Street gain Scania L94UB / Wright 4926-30 (Y926-9ERG, Y493ETN) for service 50. Percy Main gain SPD 8211 (V211ERG) and Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 3831 (S831OFT), while Gateshead gain sisters 3825/33/930 (S825/33OFT, R389LGH) and SPDs 8212/3/6-8 (V212/3/6-8ERG). Saltmeadows gain SPD 8223 (X223FBB) and Peterlee get MPDs 801/20 (X501WRG, NK51MKC). MPDs 607/8 (W928PTS, W869YNB) are withdrawn, as are SPDs 8166/9 (S366/9ONL) and Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 3899-01 (R257/549/50LGH). SPDs 8163/4/74 (S363/4/74ONL) have gone to JP Travel, Middleton. Some of the Volvo B7TLs that came up from London have now gon for refurbishment and onward movement to other areas, while the remainder have been allocated to depots for Metro replacement work. Chester-le-Street have 9110/1/3, Stanley have 9114/5, Percy Main has 9121, Deptford have 9122-4 and Gateshead have 9134/5. Scania Omnicity 5260 (NK56KJU) has been repainted silver, while VDL SB120 / Wright 8270 (NK54NKX) and Dennis Trident / East Lancs 3868 (W178SCU) have been repainted into Northern livery. Paul Francis notes that MPD 519 (NK51MKA) now carries East Durhan branding.
Deliveries of new Alexander Dennis Enviro 300s to Stagecoach North East at South Sheilds continue. Noted in use by myself, Curtis Rawlinson and Steven Hodgson are 27723-30/2/4 (NK11BFJ/L-P/U/V/Y/GE), of which 27732/4 are route branded. 27733/5 (NK11BFP/GF) have also been noted in the depot. Steven Hodgson reports that Volvo B10BLE / Northern Counties 21101 (P601JBU) has moved to Walkergate. Chris Redpath and Steve Brackley report that Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 19157 (NK07HAX) has moved to Slatyford in place of 19151 (NK07HBL) and Chris also reports that Dennis Dart / Alexander 32634 (P634PGP) has gone for scrap. Volvo B10M / Alexander 20550 (P550ESA) has been repainted into driver training livery and is almost complete in its conversion to a trainer.

Arriva North East have moved Optare Solo 2801/2/15 (YK08ERO/U/TL) to Jesmond and 2816 (YK08ETO) to Ashington, though the latter will move on as of 17/04/11. Solos 2801/2/21/4 (YK08ERO/U, YJ08XBD/E) are now in a special Nexus livery for contracty services, many of which were won from 27/03/11 - thanks to Steven Hodgson and Ray Parnaby for illustrating. MPD 1709 (V709DNL) has been displaced to Durham, with 1707/23/52 (V707/23DNL, W753SBR) due to follow, though expected to move again when the Durham County cuts take place from 17/04/11. MPDs 1766/7 (NK05GWE/F) are now at Jesmond, with the former (as illustrated by Steven Hodgson) now in a special two-tone green and black livery, seemingly the basis of a new livery for the X40. Optare Metroriders 919/2710/1 (R919JNL, R710/1MHN) and Mercedes Vario / Alexander 2652/5 (X652/6WTN) are listed for disposal. Bryn McGloin reports that Dennis Dart / Northern Counties 1628 (N474MUS) has entered service at Redcar, allowing Alexander bodied 1675 (P616PGP) to move to Darlington to replace sister 1684 (P461EEF). New ticket machines are in the progress of being fitted to the fleet, depot by depot.
The Go North East website shows that Volvo B9TL / Wright 6001/2 (NK11BGZ/HA) have been delivered for the Red Arrows X1, while Gez reports that sister NK11BHE has arrived at Heysham docks. Steven Hodgson and Richard Tiplady reports that VDL SB120 / Wright 8267-70 (NK54NKT/U/W/X) have moved to Deptford, with SPDs 8238-41 (NK51MKM-P) going in exchange, the latter now receiving R19 branding. Steven also notes that MPD 502 (X502WRG) is now yellow, while Ray Parnaby notes that sisters 504-6 (X504-6WRG) are now fully branded. Steven and Richard note that SPD 8232 (X232FBB), Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4848/923 (R848PRG, X923WGR) and Volvo B10BLE / Alexander 4993 (S590KJF) all now have branding for "The Key" on their red paintwork, Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4911 (W411SCU) is now white with Cobalt branding, Scania L94UB / Wright 5227 (NK54NWA) carries advertsing for the X66 and 10 connections to the Metrocentre and sister 4934 (Y934ERG) is now orange. David Gambles reports that the smart card readers are now in full use for concessionary passes.

Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 19151 (NK07HBL) have been badly damaged by fire. Chris Hall reports that Volvo B10B / Plaxton driver trainer 21037 (L37HHN) has been withdrawn.

Arriva North East have acquired Dennis Dart / Plaxton 1609 (N683GUM) and Northern Counties bodied 1628 (N474MUS) ex Arriva Scotland West. Neither is in use as yet. DAF SB220GS/Plaxton 4007 (S893ONL) has now taken up position at Stockton following fitment of a new engine, releasing MPD 1754 (W756SBR) to go to Ashington. Steven Hodgson notes that Volvo B10B / Alexander 4535 (L209KEF) has been repaintyed red, suggesting that the Northumbria two-tone blue scheme has been discontinued, and that MPD 1792 (NK55MYT) has gained a dark-blue skirt in similar style to Scanias 7251/8. .
The Tyne & Wear Metro is closed between Byker and Tynemouth from 12/03/11 to 02/04/11 and Go North East are operating the bulk of the replacement bus service. A number of Volvo B7TL / Plaxton have been drafted in from Go Ahead's London operations for this work, comprising 9110/1/3-6/8/21-9/31-6 (V310/1/3-5LGC, V816KGF, V218LGC, V921KGF, V322LGC, V923KGF, V324-7/228/329/31/2/233/334-6LGC), as noted by Steven Hodgson, Raymond Embleton, Stuart Gray, Curtis Rawlinson and Ray Parnaby. These were preapred at Percy Main and Chester-le-Street. Also on loan from London, is Mercedes Ciaro artic 9146 (BD57WCY), which is operating for Gateshead on the 58. To supplement the Metro replacements, a special service 1X is also operating between North Shields and Newcastle, for which Dennis Dart SLF / Caetano 8279 (T426LGP) carries window stickers as noted by Steven Hodgson. The Go North East website shows the movement of SPDs 8162/70/5 (S362/70/5ONL) to Percy Main, the reinstatement of MPDs 620 (V729DNL) to Deptford and 607/23 (W928PTS, V732DNL) to Chester-le-Street, the withdrawal of the final Leyland Olympian 3949 (H589EGU) and the sale of SPD 8165 (S365ONL) to JP Travel. Repaints/brandings noted by Steven Hodgson, Richard Tiplady, Ray Parnaby and Raymond Embleton see Volvo B10BLE/Wright 4910 (W491SCU) branded for the new soccerbus service, sisters 4848/923 (R848PRG, X923WGR) in Northern livery, DAF SB220GS/Northern Counties 4988 (R983FNW) branded for the 10/X66 connections to the Metrocentre, MPDs 504/6 (X504/6WRG) repainted green and sister 515 (NK51MJU) branded as Venture.
Delivery has commenced of 18 Alexander Dennis Enviro 300s for Stagecoach North East at South Shields for the Economic routes. Steve Brackley reports that MAN 18.220 / Alexander 22023-6 (NK03XJP/T-V) have moved to Stalyford, displacing Volvo B10M / Plaxton 20258/63/4 (R558/3/4RPY) to reserve, as confirmed by Chris Redpath, who also notes that Nortehrn Counties bodied 20293 (M403SPY) has gone fo scrap.

Arriva North East have additional ex Arriva Midlands Scania L113/East Lancs 268 (N173PUT) in service at Stockton and have reinstated Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 7411 (P411CCO). As illustrated by Steven Hodgson, Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 7510 (NK57GXC) is back in use at Ashington following roof repairs. Arriva have announced orders for 419 new vehicles for the coming year - it will be interesting to see how many of these are for our region.
Richard Tiplady and Steven Hodgson report on the latest repaints at Go North East. Now in Northern red are SPDs 8215/6/41 (V215/6ERG, NK51MKP), of which 8216 has breifly been on loan to Chester-le-Street. Scania L94UB 4927/8/31 (Y927/8/31ERG) are all noted as blue repaints, with presumably 4929/30 (Y929/493ERG) also. Richard also notes the appearance of several Quaylink Versas on the 16 in Jarrow.
Stagecoach North East now have all of MAN 18.220 / Alexander 22011-20 (NK03XJA-J/L) in use at Stockton. Steven Hodgson notes Volvo B10BLE / Northern Counties 21103 (P603JBU) as another that has moved to South Shields. All of the new Enviro 400s are now in service.

Arriva North East have VDL SB120 / Plaxton 1957-9 (YJ07JSX-Z) on loan from Arriva Scotland West. 1957/8 are at Ashington and 1959 is "under repair", currently awaiting such at Ashington. These are to ease a vehicle shortage that stemmed from the number of vehicles that suffered damage and major unit failures during the severe weather. VDL SB200 / Plaxton 04 (YJ58FFC) is now at Blyth. Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 7411 (P411CCU) is the first of the batch to be listed for disposal and Alex Kennedy notes that this is now dumped at Jesmond. Stagecoach North East's latest Enviro 400s continue to enter service, with 19682 (NK60DPO) being the highest noted in use. This presumably means that 19679-81 (NK60DPE/F/N) are also in use, with 19683 (NK60DOU) to follow. Neil Wise and Ray Parnaby note that Arriva North East are swapping three ofJesmond's MPDs for three of Darlington's Optare Solos. At Jesmond so far are 2824/5 (YJ08XBD/E), displacing 1715/50 (V715DNL, W751SBR) to Darlington.
Steven Hodgson and Ray Parnaby illustrate Volvo B5L / Wright hybrid demonstrator 9147 (BK10MGV) on loan to Go North East at Washington, where some more conventional Volvo B9TLs are due later in the year. Other movements from the company website show that Stanley now have Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties 3931 (R390LGH) and SPDs 8167-9 (S367-9ONL), Saltmeadoes have SPDs 8226/7/9/30 (X226/7/9/30FBB), Washington have MPDs 564/5 (NK53TLO/U) and MPD 8218 (V218ERG) and Deptford have MPDs 571/2 (NK53TMV/X).
Steven Hodgson and Curtis Rawlinson note the arrival of further Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s at Stagecoach North East. 19673-8 (NK60DNU/Y/OA/H/J/U) are now in use at Walkergate. Further MANs have moved to Stockton, as noted by Curtis and Chris Hall, with 22011-7/20 (NK03XJA-G/L) all having moved and most in service. These have displaced Volvo B10M / Alexander 20554 (P554ESA), which is expected to be converted to a driver trainer, and Volvo B10BLE / Northern Counties 21101 (P601JBU) to South Shields.
Interesting new arrivals at Stagecarriage, Grangetown are former Bournemouth Leyland Fleetline GRU164V and ex Go North East Dennis Lance SLF / Wright M470FJR. Vehicles no longer on fleet strength are Leyland Olympian / ALexander K725ASC, Neoplan Skyliner RIB4313 (exported to Africa!), Volvo B10B / Northern Counties K106OHF and Volvo B10M / Alexander L307PSC.
Veolia North East have Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 YK09HZB in use ex Veolia Rotherham, as noted by Steven Hodgson. It is understood that some Solos may have gone in exchange.

An interesting arrival at Arriva North East's Ashington depot is ex Arriva Midlands (in turn ex Yorkshire) Volvo B10B / Alexander driver trainer 9530 (M421UNW). It is not yet known whether it is for use, for spares or some other purpose. Also arrived, certainly for spares, at Stockton are a pair of DAF SB120 / Wright ex Bus Eireaan. Ian Wilson and Alex Kennedy both note them as 00-D-96305/11 and both are donating parts at Stockton. Steven Hodgson notes that Scania L113 / East Lancs 263 (N171PUT) has finally entered service at Durham after many months uper preparation and Curtis Rawlinson notes that this appears to have displaced sister 287 (N287NCN), which has been noted working for Blyth, though presumably only as a temporary measure. Steven also notes that VDL DB300 / Wright 7608 (NK59DMF) is the latest to don Quorum base livery.
Steven Hodgson notes that Stagecoach North East have taken delivery of the first of their latest batch of 14 Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s. 19670-2 (NK60DNJ/N/O) are now in service on the 12 for Walkergate. These are expected to displace MANs and already 22012 (NK03XJB) has been noted under preparation at Stockton. These Enviro 400s feature detail differences to previous batches in Newcastle, with offside radiators and PVC seat covers in vulnerable locations (as per recent deliveries to Manchester). Steven Hodgson reports that CAT-powered Volvo Olympian / Alexander 16730 (N730LTN) has returned to service after a long lay-off. Chris Hall reports that two of the Routemasters that have been stored at Stockton for many months have been brought out of hibernation and are being prepared for export to a new home in Canada. These are RML 2450/671 (JJD450D, SMK671F).
Steven Hodgson notes that Go North East have painted Scania L94UB / Wright 4926 (Y926ERG) into a light blue livery, beleived to be for service 50 Durham - South Shields. He also notes that Dennis Trident / East Lancs 3875 (W185SCU) has been repainted in Northern livery and has joined sister 3876 (W186SCU) at Stanley, displacing Volvo B10BLE / Wright 4904/5 (W904/5RBB) to Chester-le-Street. Volvo B10M / Plaxton 7080 (Y808MFT) has been on loan from the driver training school to Chester-le-Street.
Tees Valley Coach Travel, Hartlepool have sold Optare Solo S289NRB and it was noted yesterday now working for Holmeswood, Ormskirk.

Happy new year!
Arriva North East have suffered a number of vehicular casulaties during the prolonged cold spell and, as a result, a number of unusual workings are occurring in order to maintain services. This includes Belmont's Park and Ride Solo 2861 (YJ59GKF) working for Durham on the 49 for much of the last week. Steven Hodgson notes that VDL DB300 / Wright 7607 (NK59DME) is now fully branded for the Quorum Express.
Go North East have had London General articulated Mercedes Citaro MAL98 (BD57WDC) on loan and have trialled it over the 56 and 58 routes, as recoded by Ray Parnaby, Raymond Embleton and Steven Hodgson. Steven also notes that SPD 8218 (V218ERG) is another in red Northern livery.
Classic, Annfield Plain have had Optare Solo Y292PDN branded up for the Hadrians Wall service to replace the Solo lost to accident damage last year. Ray Parnaby notes that FJ60HYH is another Volvo B9 / Caetano Levante for National Express work.
Weardale, Stanhope have added a further Optare Solo and Dennis Trident / Plaxton to stock. The Solo is now registered V6WMS and is in operation on the DCC "Ruralride" services out of Consett, while the Trident is registered X6WMS and retains London livery at the moment. Boxing Day in Tyne & Wear
As is customary a network of services (largely subsidised by Nexus) was operated in Tyne & Wear on Boxing Day. Steven Hodgson and Ray Parnaby were out and about to record the interesting and unusual workings. Go North East operated vehicles from Deptford, Gateshead and Chester-le-Street, with Fab 56 vehicles used on such things as the 2C and 20, Lazer vehicles on on the M1 and Fast Cats on the X1, to name but a few unusual sights. Arriva North East did not operate as such, but some of their vehicles were operated by Classic on the matchday X40 Great Park park and ride specials. Classic used their own vehicles for a variety of work, including the 306/308, though some of these were crewed by volunteers from Arriva. Stagecoach North East operated mainly on their own routes, but also covered the 43 to Dudley. Stanley Buses again operated on the 56 and Weardale provided their usual high quality output away from their normal locations, working on the 93/94 and 45A/B.
